Do's and Don'ts Volume 1 Number 1
Role-playing was first a type of game where you take the role or identity of a fictional character within the rules of the game. Well nowadays that genre is being combined with other game genres such as online games (Jumpgate). The rules for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) are still the same. But unlike single player RPGs, online RPGs change with time.
I am going to start by informing you of common rules, or guidelines, for creating a believable and deep character in the Jumpgate Universe.
First: [Create you character]
Think of how you want your character to be. Personality-wise such as would he be a team player or a lone soldier? Be a Criminal or plain-old hauler making a living? You can do this by browsing the forums and JOSSH, when it gets up and running again. Also look through the list of squads and see which one you would have more fun and remember you can always change or quit squads in the future if you want.
The key thing to remember is separate yourself from your character because sometimes there are pilots who may call you names or describe you as something and you must understand that sometimes they say that as their character, or in-character (IC), and other times they say it as themselves, or out-of-character (OOC). Which leads to a common rule in JG: NEVER TAKE IN-CHARACTER STUFF SERIOUSLY OUT-OF-CHARACTER
Second: [Have a plausible background]
Write a background and post it here and/or send it to TRI-MI in the TRIx personnel format (for example: See Below or either here, here, or here). Make sure it doesn't conflict with the official timeline, or any past or present TRINN news articles. Try to stay in the Jumpgate universe, cause it kind of messes the whole thing up if you pass a pilot claiming to be Obi-Won Kenobi. Or have a group of Borg or Klingons pass you and ask if you have seen a Starfleet ship or what not.

Third:[Get involve with issues in the galaxy or start your own]
You could decide Conflux may become an endanger species and start a campaign to protect them or gather proof to get a law passed that will protect them. Or start/join a squad associated with your faction so you can try to in force policies to protect your faction's space and defend it from enemies. There are a multitude of issues or causes for your character to get involved with.
Make your own issues, for example Hyperial produced an item from materials given to it by TRI pilots for a different purpose. In short, Hyperial made an item it wasn't suppose to with supplies brought to it by TRI pilots. This item is the Burglar and it has since then became illegal to use this device in conjunction with the Insight on pilots not in your own squad. Many have not opted to help Hyperial since that event and some blockade it.
